Strange title for a blog don't you think? What's this "Porcupine Tree v Jimmy Buffet" thing all about anyway?
I am sure everyone knows who Jimmy Buffet is. Chances are though, you have no idea who "Porcupine Tree" is. If that is the case, visit this link - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porcupine_Tree. This is about as thorough of a description as you will find.
The battle shapes up like this....... Jimmy Buffet is playing at Lakewood Amphitheater in Atlanta on Tuesday April 27th. Porcupine is playing at The Tabernacle in Atlanta on the same night.
The big difference between the two, other than the respective genre of each, is that Porcupine Tree is there for the music, Jimmy Buffet is there for the MONEY!!!!
Granted, the crowd at Jimmy Buffet is going to have a fabulous time. Jimmy Buffet fans are known for their enthusiastic approach to a concert.... Lot's of drinking, smoking, dancing and whatever else goes on..... Rest assured, it will be a good time......
But at what price? Jimmy Buffet set the price for his tickets..... $36.00 for lawn seats and $136.00 for reserved seats. Sold out of course, tickets are now anywhere from $55.00 to $594.00. $594.00 to listen to "Cheeseburger in Paradise"..... Puhleeze!
A far better value is Porcupine Tree at The Tabernacle. Not only are the musicians in PT exponentially superior to Jimmy and the Coral Reefers...... They are also there for us, the fans and the music.
Ticket cost for PT is $25.00..... You read that correctly.... $25.00..... an additional $10.00 for the "convenience" charge levied by Ticketmaster(another blog all together). They are not in it for the money, but to share with us the gifts with which they have been blessed.
So if you want a deal, sell your Jimmy Buffet tickets and support an artist that is in it for something besides money.....
One last thing..... I used to go see Jimmy Buffet before he was in it for the money.... Several times at "The Great Southeast Music Hall" where you sat on the floor and drank buckets of beer! He was much better back then......

Excellence is rewarded, Mediocrity is unacceptable.
If we do not beat Tech this weekend, then no bowl game for UGA????
Several years ago, I sat in bewilderment as the Notre Dame team took a vote on whether or not to accept an invitation to a bowl game, even though they had only won 6 games that year. They voted to go, and I still don't understand how a team with only 6 victories can, in good conscience, vote to accept a bowl bid when it is clearly undeserved.
Fast forward to 2009 and this year’s UGA team is currently 6-5, and in all likelihood, will be 6-6 at the end of the regular season. Should our ENTIRE team step up and beat Tech next weekend (which is exactly what it will take), and I believe that we have the talent to d0 so, we will have a somewhat respectable record of 7-5, while playing a very tough schedule, and therefore in my opinion would have earned a spot in a bowl game, but 6-6... .500... No friggin' way we should go.
I know the arguments... More money for the conference, helps recruiting and perhaps most of all, it gives us 15 or so extra practice sessions.... Well la-de-da...... That is not what is best for our team, or our program..... Would the extra practice help us all that much? It seems that practice throughout the year has not been effective, and considering that Coach Richt has been unwilling to take the redshirts off of some of our players and get them some live game reps, then practicing this same team, for a meaningless game is a waste of everyone’s time.
Use the time wisely coach..... Take the time that you and your staff would have used to prepare for this meaningless game and spend a little time with your family... Take some personal time and honestly review the entire programs performance without any influence from others. Review your coaching staff and hold them accountable. Remember, you were hired to do what you think is best for UGA. There are so many things wrong with the entire UGA PROGRAM that you are going to need all the time you can get to get our program back on track. Major changes need to occur on your staff, and I am glad I don't have to make the decisions on who needs to go, and perhaps even more importantly, who is going to be their replacements. But then again, that's why you are the Head Coach......
I can hear all of the cry-babies starting now... But what about the Seniors, they should not be punished because (insert excuse here)..... Let this be a lesson for all players, coaches, staff, and alumni.... Excellence is rewarded, mediocrity is unacceptable.
